About the Project
Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Calgary house is in the University of Calgary, West Campus district, across from the Alberta Children’s Hospital. The original house that opened in 2009 had provided many families a place to stay while their children receive medical treatment. The original house contained 27 suites, a communal kitchen, dining area and various amenity spaces. The project goal was to renovate and complete an expansion at the south end of the original building to meet the growing demand. The expansion has nearly triple the capacity with the addition of 63 suites, a commercial kitchen / dining, amenity spaces and underground parkade. RMHC provides a home away from home for families in need, which became a driving factor through design. Creating warm and inviting spaces by using natural elements and materials, while considering durability.
